Addiction

What is addiction?

 Addiction can be described as a neuropsychological disorder that involves the inability to stop using a substance or engage in certain behaviors that may cause harm. Addiction can look different for everyone. It can include gambling, drugs, alcohol, smoking, as well as many other things.

Fentanyl

What is fentanyl?

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opiod drug used for pain relief. Fentanyl is said to be 50 times more powerful than heroin and 10 times stronger than morphine. 1,951 Virginians have been killed by fentanyl in 2022. According to Governor Youngkin, "since 2020, more Virginians have died from fatal drug overdoses than motor vehicle and gun-related deaths combined." (Glenn Youngkin. 2023. Executive Order on the Fentanyl Crisis in Virginia)
